Sarah Jensen Clayton believes that every word counts.
And having worked in the maelstrom of national politics, she
would know. As a veteran of both the United States
Department of Education and The White House, Sarah learned
early that communication needs to be accurate, nuanced and
engaging.
"I love that communication is both an art and a science,"
she said. "There are tried and true rules, but also
flexibility and room for creativity. It’s the challenge of
balancing those that make it so interesting for me."
Sarah began her career in education policy, working in a
government relations role at Jumpstart for Young Children, a
non-profit that pairs college students with low-income
preschoolers to build basic literacy skills. Then, after
earning her M.Ed. at Harvard, Sarah was selected as a
Presidential Management Fellow and went to work at the U.S.
Department of Education, where she managed a $16 million
program to promote effective educational policies over the
web. Later, she was called to serve at The White House,
working on education and youth initiatives for First Lady
Laura Bush.
Following her public service, Sarah moved on to become a
consultant at Deloitte Consulting, based in San Francisco.
There, she focused on providing strategic communications
support to a range of clients, including Ansell Healthcare,
Hewlett-Packard and Levi Strauss & Co.
Sarah joined ROI Communication in 2009 after reading
about the company in Working Mother magazine, which
had named ROI one of the best small companies to work for in
America. She is currently engaged in facilitating and
communicating a major change initiative at a leading
technology company.
When not offering her expertise to clients, Sarah is
actively involved in her church congregation and caring for
her newborn son. In addition to her graduate degree from
Harvard, she holds a B.A. in History from Brigham Young
University. |
