Spent a year and a half reading the entire dictionary, cover to cover. Works with a dogged determination for each client.
Rory’s background encompasses writing, editing, event and project management, and Web site design, applying a subtle personal touch to each client project. His expertise with the written word is evident even when composing complex communications for clients such as San Jose-based solar power company SunPower Corporation, where Rory not only authored numerous articles but also helped design and launch the company’s intranet site.
In his client work with Hewlett-Packard, Rory served as chief editor for two company-wide newsletters, allowing him to don the many hats of writer, manager and editor all at once. With Symantec, Rory showcased his management abilities by helping plan the company’s annual Senior Leader Meeting, where 200 of the company’s top executives came together for a two-day summit. In recognition of his many talents and versatility, ROI Communication tapped Rory in 2008 to serve as our own Internal Communications Manager – no small honor for a company made up entirely of communicators.
In his work with Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), Rory played a central role in the company’s successful campaign against Proposition H, a ballot initiative by the city of San Francisco to take over the utility company. As the strategic lead for employee communication around the company’s competitive issues, he created project plans, authored intranet and newsletter articles, and composed executive correspondence. After working with PG&E, Rory applied his knowledge of the energy sector to Chevron Corporation, where he served as editor of the company’s Hearts & Minds magazine and provided writing support to the Global Marketing organization.
Prior to joining ROI Communication, Rory managed staff members at the well-known Bacco Ristorante in Boston’s historic North End. While there, he ran training programs, negotiated with vendors, and developed new products. At Score! Educational Center in Wellesley, Ma., Rory provided structured, educational guidance for children, ages four to 14. At the National Endowment for Democracy in Washington, D.C., he authored articles charting the spread of democracy worldwide. He also upgraded, maintained and wrote for the Endowment’s Web site.
Known for near-maniacal attention to detail, exceptional organizational skills, and a contagious “can-do” attitude, Rory graduated cum laude from Colgate University with a double major in history and political science and workshops his fiction at grub street, inc., Boston’s only independent writing center.
