Over the past 30 years, Paul Sanchez has developed a reputation as one of the world’s foremost experts on improving communication and collaboration within organizations of virtually every size and type.
“There’s a strong correlation between organizations that work on communicating effectively and those that succeed in achieving their goals,” Paul said. “Communication is central to every human interaction, and I enjoy helping people, teams and companies communicate better to reach their potential.”
A member of ROI Communication’s Board of Advisors since 2010, Paul has devoted his career to enhancing employee and organizational performance by strengthening the relationship between communications and human resources. He began this work in the U.S. Air Force, serving in both communications and human resource roles around the world, then shifted into business consulting.
Over the years, he has served in leadership positions at three international consulting firms: Hay Associates, Watson Wyatt and Mercer. At Hay and Watson Wyatt he was the Global Practice Director for Communications. At Mercer he was a Worldwide Partner and the Global Director of Employee Research, based in New York, and earlier served as Mercer’s European practice leader for Communication and Organization Research and Effectiveness, based in London.
Paul is an accredited member of two professional communications associations: the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) and the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC). Paul has served on the IABC’s International Board, and chaired the Board of Trustees of the IABC Research Foundation. In honor of his lifetime achievements in the field, the IABC recently awarded him its highest honor – recognition as an IABC Fellow.
“I’ve always seen communications a process grounded in research, with effective communication as the outcome,” said Paul, who currently advises ROI Communication’s Measurement Team. “Sometimes people think communication is about creativity, but it’s not just that. The first step in an effective communication process is measurement. Creative communication without quantitative measurement is hit-or-miss.”
In addition to advising ROI, Paul serves as a Principal in CSF Consulting, a network of consultants who specialize in change management and employee research. Among other roles, he also advises the Lorenzo de Medici Institute (an educational organization in Italy) and serves on the Advisory Council of Loyola Marymount University’s College of Communications and Fine Arts.
Paul earned a BS in Psychology form Loyola University (which later merged with Loyola Marymount), an MS in Organizational Communication from Boston University, and a certification in Professional Firm Management from Harvard Business School. When he’s not consulting, Paul – a San Diego resident – enjoys hiking the beaches and trails of Southern California and working in his garden, where he and his wife grow olives, lavender, rosemary, and dwarf cypress trees.
