Ruta Skelton is
a senior communication professional, with extensive experience in benefits and
compensation communication. After working as a journalist and corporate
communicator, she joined Hewitt Associates in 1986 to start up the firm’s
communication consulting business in Canada. She designed and implemented the
communication of a flexible benefits plan for American Express – the first large
company in Canada to introduce such a plan. While at Hewitt, Ruta wrote portions
of and edited the Canadian Handbook of Flexible Benefits, published in 1990.
Ruta continued
to be a frequent author and speaker on benefits and compensation communication
when she became the Canadian communication practice leader for Towers Perrin.
She also taught the benefits communication course for the CEBS (Certified
Employee Benefits Specialist) program at Toronto’s Humber College and revised
the CEBS communication module for Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Prior to joining ROI, Ruta led the communication practice in the Bay Area for
Mercer HR.
Ruta is a past
chairman of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) and
the winner of international awards for communication excellence, including those
for benefits and compensation communication.
